European people and residents traveling to Scotland are required to show only a valid identity card.

Greenwich meridian time (+GMT)

240V, 50Hz

Language
English, with Scottish dialect/accent. Scottish Gaelic is now disappearing, it is only spoken in some remote rural areas.

As in the rest of Great Britain, driving sense is on the left

Driving licence
In Scotland, as in the rest of Great Britain, driving is permitted with a valid international licence 

Currency
British Pound. Some shopping centres may also accept Euro, but you need to pay commission charges. Credit cards are generally accepted in all places.
The currency unit (1 Pound) is divided into 100 pence.

Weights and measures
As in the rest of Great Britain the official measurement units are inches and miles for distance and length, pint for liquid capacity, pound and ounce for weight.  See the following page for details on weights and measures.
Pubs normally sell beer using pint measure (1 pint= about half a litre).
 
Tip
It is common practice to leave a tip to taxi drivers and waiters in restaurants, normally 10% of the due price, unless the service was very poor. The wages of waiters are often calculated considering tips that they will receive.

The telephone number for emergencies (police, ambulance, firemen and guardian coast ) is 999.

Smoking
Smoking is forbidden in all public places, pubs included.
