How to move around Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city which must be visited on foot, in order to fully enjoy and appreciate its gorgeous old town. Both the Old and the New Town are not so extended, and, despite the many ups and downs of streets, a pleasant walk will permit you to discover the very essence of Edinburgh. Traffic is never excessive, because local people prefer public bus to cars.
To move away from the centre, for instance to visit the Britannia yacht in the port of Edinburgh, it is recommendable to take one of the numerous and efficient buses of the Lothian company.

The main bus station is on Waverley Bridge, where the main ticket office also stands. Tickets can always be purchased on board. There is no rush to get on the bus, and double-decker are always very clean, with comfortable seats.

Just like in all cities, Edinburgh also offers City Sightseeing, the panoramic bus tours around the city with audio guide player in multiple languages. Considering that with a daily ticket on double-decker bus you can travel all day, you may avoid the Sightseeing buses.
